Year 7 Science: Pre-metric units in Rome
Year 7 students continue to build a strong foundation in science through a combined course that rotates between Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Across the term, students have explored a wide range of topics designed to develop both scientific knowledge and practical skills.
In Biology, students have studied Cells, Tissues and Organs, Reproduction, and Muscles and Bones. In Chemistry, they have completed units on Mixtures, Acids and Alkalis, and Particle Theory, while Physics lessons have focused on Energy, Electricity, and the current topic of Forces.
Lessons incorporate a variety of teaching methods, with a strong emphasis on practical investigations to help students develop confidence and begin preparing for future IGCSE and A Level study. Alongside scientific content, students are also developing their understanding of how science works through topics such as the Scientific Method and Scientific Literacy.
As part of their Forces unit, students have explored measurement, including SI Units and the reasons they are used internationally. This week, they investigated the wide variety of measurement systems used by different countries before the adoption of the metric system, helping them appreciate the importance of standardisation in science and everyday life.
