Primary

Our Primary school follows on from our Early Years and starts at year 1 where children are 5 continuing to Year 6, where children end the year aged 11.

From Year 1, the following subject areas are taught: English (Speaking and Listening, Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar, Reading and Writing), Mathematics, Science, Computing, Art and Design, PCSHE (personal, citizenship, social, health education), RE, Design and Technology (including food and nutrition), Geography, History, Languages (French and Kiswahili), Performing Arts (Music and Drama) and Physical Education (including Swimming)

Here at Braeburn Dar es Salaam, we set high expectations for every student; we see each child as an individual and then plan challenging work ensuring progress is made. We are proud to be a non- selective school and can meet the needs of both those whose attainment is significantly above the expected standard and for students who have low levels of prior attainment or have identified additional educational needs (for example, English as an additional language). Our teachers use appropriate assessment to set targets which are deliberately ambitious. In support of our on-going teacher assessment, we use GL CAT4 tests in Year 3 and 5, supported by the GL progress tests in English, Maths and Science. We also use NGRT (reading age test) for years 2 - 6 as well as the phonics assessment in Year 1.

Our teaching resources are bought both locally and from leading educational suppliers and publishers from the United Kingdom and we ensure that teachers and classrooms are well-equipped to deliver the curriculum using a variety of methods that cater for the different learning styles of our students.

In the fast and ever changing world of Information Communications Technology, we are committed to using ICT to support teaching and learning. Teachers are given the training and equipment needed to ensure ICT is embedded in all areas of the curriculum.

We encourage and celebrate all students to help them develop their individual talents to the full whilst at Braeburn and to aspire to excellence in everything they do.We strongly believe in a holistic approach to learning where equal emphasis is placed on academics, music, sports, the arts, outdoor pursuits and drama. We are proud to offer a rich variety of extra- curricular activities and school trips which further nurture and develop interests and talents within a safe, energetic and happy learning environment.

Hello from the Primary Head Teacher

My name is Scott Webber and I wish to warmly welcome you to Braeburn Dar es Salaam where I am the Headteacher of the Primary School. I absolutely love being Headteacher to the amazing children we have here and every day they impress me with their kindness, sense of responsibility, confidence and eagerness to be the very best they can be.

Happy and safe children excel and the children at Braeburn Dar es Salaam will always be at the centre of everything we do. Relationships and well-being are key to creating an environment where children can take learning risks, experience success and challenge themselves.

My experienced and hard working team and I are dedicated to giving our children the best academic, social, and emotional experience they can have; through a relevant and robust curriculum, extra curricular activities, experiences and trips too!

We will always seek and value both your input as their parents and carers and carefully listen to the voices of your children.

Please come and chat with me, it would be great to see you!

Mr Webber
