Year 1 have had a fun-filled packed week full of excitement and learning! We finished our funny rhyming weather poems and they are brilliant! Our children have the most amazing, creative imaginations don’t they?! Snippets include: ‘The frog stood on the log in the fog’, ‘I ate a bun in the hot sun’ and ‘Rain fell on my brain, I let my head get wet.’
We have now started a modern fiction book called Hair Love and will be writing our own story choosing something that we love about ourselves.
On Thursday, we had an amazing World Book Day. We started our day reading with the Year 6’s which was wonderful for everyone. We learnt all about the history of the Kanga and then we met (via zoom) the author of Mama's Magical Kanga! We got to ask her questions and hear all about how she became an author, what inspired her to write the story and then we listened to the story in Kiswahili and English, all whilst sitting in the library which had transformed into a magical kanga land! We created lovely pieces of kanga art work and then we had a drama lesson and acted the story out for ourselves.
We finished the week with our project showcases! We had a range of videos, drawings and even a wooden house all to do with measurements. We did really well talking about length, height, taller and shorter.
