Last week, Year 6 took a trip to the Khoja Shia Ithna Asheri Jamaat to explore their learning on Islamic art and culture. They learnt about this landmark’s history, founded in 1942, as well as the inspiration behind its architecture. This building features domes, minarets, girih or geometric tiles as well as arches. The children were amazed to learn that these architectural features not only are aesthetically pleasing to the eye but are also purposeful to keep a mosque cool. Our Year 6 students asked intelligent questions, engaged in their tour with interest and made careful observations and notes. We are grateful for the experience and continue to look forward to learning more about advancements in Mathematics, Medicine, Literature and Culture that took place during the Early Islamic Civilisation.
