Our Year 6 students have been incredibly busy over the last two weeks!
Their Carnival Games fundraiser was quite successful, and with the recent Ice-cream sale, they raised a total of 900,000/- for Kilwa Kisiwani Primary School. Here are some of their thoughts from that experience:
“Working in a job is more difficult than you think.”
“I learned that you have to be very hardworking, responsible, kind and determined when you are running a stall.”
“I enjoyed seeing the younger and older students having fun!”
“I really enjoyed seeing students sponging Mr Treacher and Mr Webber!”
-I learned some marketing and financial skills from this experience.”
In Science, our students have been looking at microorganisms and are carrying out a mould experiment in the laboratory. Here is what they have to say:
“It was a quick experiment to set up and there was so much fresh bread left over on Day 1. Miss Sheila said we could have it. I really liked eating the leftover bread.”
“It’s interesting to see mould grow on bread and I am learning that mould is a microorganism and a type of fungi.”
“I am excited to see mould grow! I learned that mould needs moisture to grow.”
The students were also treated to a unique experience with UpStudio along with many of our Secondary students through the facilitation of the Hybrid Innovation Project (HIP) in partnership with Toyota. Students learned the benefits of hybrid vehicles for Tanzania and the world as well as the dangers of carbon dioxide emissions from conventional vehicles. They also got to see and sit inside two very interesting hybrid self-charging cars! Here are their thoughts:
“It was so cool to see a self-charging hybrid car!”
“I enjoyed learning about the parts of a conventional, hybrid and electric car.”
-I liked the quiet engine of a hybrid car. It was really cool.”
-I liked sitting in one of those cars! Wow. The seats were so soft.”
“We learned about how cars are powered and the effects of carbon dioxide on the environment.”
Our Year 6 students are well on their way as learners enjoying success! Well done students!
