On Tuesday this week, Year 6 had a class trip to Nafasi Art Space in Mikocheni as part of their History, Science and Art lessons. Firstly, the class did a tour of the art gallery to appreciate the artistic expression of new and upcoming artists. The children were asked to share which piece of art work impacted on them and why. Next the class had a brief lecture on World War 2. They looked at the causes of this war, the outcome of the war and the development of art during this period. The class learnt that the most popular style of the time was expressionism and abstract. Art was used to document atrocities committed during the war. The class also learnt how light is used in art to emphasize features through highlights and shadows. The children had an opportunity to make their own World War 2 artwork, expressing how they might have felt had they lived during that time. All in all, it was a great learning opportunity and we are grateful to the management of Nafasi Art Space for hosting us.
