Year 6 have been very busy in their roles as historians this past week as they analysed historical artefacts. Williams reminds us "Artefacts are alive. Each has a voice. They remind us what it means to be human - that it is our nature to survive, to create works of beauty, to be resourceful, to be attentive to the world we live in.”Our students thus carefully studied replica artefacts and photographs of artefacts from the Early Islamic Civilisation. They worked hard to ask enquiry questions and develop their interpersonal skills in discussing their deductions with a learning partner and then recording their ideas in their books.
Additionally, Year 6 have developed their editing and upleveling writing skills in English. They first began the week with an exciting visit from Professor Dan Brockington, author of the Samti books, who shared about his experiences as a writer and a little bit about the editing and publishing process. To practise their skills, Year 6 took a trip to the Year 4 classroom where they not only read through their creatively written set of instructions on a mythical creature but also humbly listened to feedback from their Year 4 peers. What great fun some of our Year 4 students had in being kind, helpful editors when offering their critique! Our Year 4 and 6 students also thoroughly enjoyed these amazing pieces of Year 6 writing.
