Week 6 was full of fun and adventure for Year 5 students.
We had a truly amazing trip to Northern Tanzania, where unforgettable memories were made. We visited a National Museum in Arusha, where the children learnt about human evolution. To support this learning, we took a tour to Olduvai Gorge, where we saw some of the oldest evidence of the early humans, learnt about how researches date the fossils and observed the effects of the soil erosion.
We went for a safari into the wonderful Ngorongoro crater and were lucky to see the Big Five. The children were stunned by the size and beauty of the crater. In Karatu, the children had an opportunity to visit a jewellery shop, where they saw many minerals and gems mined in Tanzania- an excellent practical observation to support our Geography topic.
The children also paid a friendly visit to Black Rhino Academy in Karatu, where one of the best football pitch and athletics tracks in Tanzania is built. Year 5 and 6 children played a friendly football match and a basketball game.
Another memorable experience was visiting the Hadzabe people and learning about the life of the Bushmen. Everyone was keen on trying to shoot the arrow and listen to the stories about hunting.
Last but not least, we had a Coffee tour in Mererani village, located at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. The children had a traditional Chagga lunch and learned how coffee beans are grown and processed to make delicious coffee.
Year 5 children who were at school, enjoyed their activity week in a different way. From team building and cooking to fun mathematical games and the trip to Wet and Wild. The children learned to cook spaghetti with sausage and vegetables, had lots of team building games outdoors, played a separation game and enjoyed other great activities.
Why not ask your child about it at home and enjoy looking at the photos together?
