Year 3

6th May 2023

Over the last two weeks, we have been learning the skill of recounting events using a diary entry. We jumped into the world of pirates including the terror of walking the dreaded ‘plank’ as we studied the diary entry of a young fellow called ‘Pete.’ To truly learn this text, we hand selected ambitious vocabulary such as ‘threadbare hammock’, ‘sea shanties’, and ‘motley crew.’ It was so much fun to create a text map of this diary entry in small groups and then act it out to the class! Our favourite words to act out were ‘disgusting rotten fish’ and ‘grumpy captain.’ We are learning how important it is to study new words as it helps us know and use new vocabulary. We are also thinking about the point of view of the writer, Pete, and what he felt when on board a pirate ship. We cannot wait to apply some of these skills to create our own pirate diary entries. Ahoy Matey! Watch out for some excellent writing very soon.
