Year 2

22nd June 2024

Year 2 has loved jumping back in time to the year 1666- at the time of the Great Fire of London! We have learned about Samuel Pepys and Thomas Farrynor and how a tiny, burning flame burned down large parts of London. The children recited the poem ‘A Tiny Burning Flame’ really well, some even memorising their stanza and adding action. We took the chance to link our learning in history to the world around us- by learning about fire safety. Mr Turner demonstrated how to extinguish an oil fire (NOT with water) and a wood fire. We loved counting the fire extinguishers, fire hoses and other fire safety equipment as well. So much fun learning to be had! Have you had a fire safety chat at home? What would a safe route out of the house be in case of fire?
