Year 1

11th May 2024

Year 1 have been very busy this week! They enjoyed their trip to Denmark in Geography and English, where they learned about what it would be like to be a child in Denmark. They also explored Danish food, culture, and history.

In English, they researched information about Denmark, which will help them write a nonfiction text about the country. In Maths, they practiced finding half of a quantity of objects and half of shapes and pictures. They also demonstrated their understanding of multiplication concepts.

In science, the students described materials and explored their properties. This term, we started our extended learning in STEM. The students enjoyed attempting different challenges such as building a paper bridge and testing its strength with toy cars of varying weights to see if the bridge could hold something heavy. They also built Denmark's physical features using geometric shapes.

Overall, it's been a busy and exciting week for Year 1!
