Year 1

4th November 2023

Year one

This week in Year One, our young learners were as busy as ever, engaging in a wide array of exciting and educational activities. From diving into the world of 2D shapes in Maths to delving into the prehistoric past with our dinosaur-themed English project, the students had a week full of exploration, creativity, and fun.

Mathematical Marvels with 2D Shapes

In our Maths lessons, the Year One students were immersed in the world of 2D shapes. They enthusiastically embraced this geometric adventure, as they delved into the properties of these shapes. From the classic triangles and squares to more complex polygons, our young mathematicians were keen to understand and explore the characteristics of each shape. This hands-on learning experience helped them develop a deeper understanding of the world of geometry and its practical applications.

Journeying into the Dinosaur Kingdom

In English, our students took a leap back in time to explore the captivating world of dinosaurs. They researched fascinating information about these prehistoric creatures and channelled their knowledge into writing engaging non-fiction texts about dinosaurs. This project not only honed their writing. We are incredibly proud of their dedication and the impressive pieces they produced during this journey of learning.

Celebrating Julia Donaldson's Imagination

Our week also took a creative turn as we celebrated the famous author Julia Donaldson. To honor her captivating storytelling, we explored one of her famous books. We read together with great enthusiasm, soaking in the magic of her words. Later, they collaborated to design their own book cover, unleashing their artistic talents and creativity. It was a fantastic way to appreciate the power of storytelling and encourage their own imaginative journeys.

Zoo Adventure at Dar Es Salaam

The excitement didn't stop there! To conclude the week on a high note, Year One embarked on an adventurous field trip to the Dar Es Salaam Zoo in Kigamboni. The visit was an opportunity for our students to get up close and personal with a diverse range of animals. They learned about the different species, their habitats, and the importance of conservation. The trip provided a hands-on, interactive experience that not only expanded their knowledge of the animal kingdom but also fostered a sense of responsibility towards the environment.

This week was a whirlwind of exploration, learning, and creativity in Year One. We are thrilled to see our students engage so eagerly in these educational experiences, and we can't wait to see what adventures next week will bring.
