Upper School

3rd April 2024

The Upper School has had a very busy and successful term! We had our production of ‘I’m An Eleven Year Old, Get me Out Of Here!’, which all the children worked incredibly hard for and it was clear to see by the time the performance came around, the level of progress in their acting skills as well as confidence gained in stage presence, speaking and listening. They should all be very proud of themselves. We have also had a number of fantastic class assemblies and brilliant project showcases as well as trips such as the Year 4 trip to Makumbusho Village, Year 4 and 5 trip to the cinema, and Year 6 trip to Bagamoyo as well as a whole school trip to the zoo. Not forgetting of course, the incredible learning that has taken place across our key stage. From learning about Ancient Africa, Trade and Light to Fractions, Physical Features of East Africa, Haiku Poetry and World Views, our children continue to be learners enjoying success and a dedicated, kind and wonderful bunch of students.

Year 4

Congratulations Year 4 on completing another fantastic term filled with learning and adventure! You all had an incredible time on our recent trip to Makumbusho Village, immersing yourselves in Tanzanian culture and heritage. From traditional dances to exploring local artefacts, it was truly a journey of discovery! But the excitement did not stop there! Back in the classroom, we delved into the fascinating world of science with a hands-on experiment exploring the states of matter.

Year 5

The growth of each and every one of our Year 5 students this term has been incredible. Not only with progress in their learning but in their own personal individual journey as they navigate their friendships, becoming more independent, responsive, thoughtful and reflective as well as tackling the increasingly challenging nature of the curriculum as they move up the school and through KS2. Well done and I look forward to seeing what Term 3 will bring for us!

Year 6

“The eyes are the window to your soul.” William Shakespeare. This week, our Year 6 students concluded their learning on 'Light and Shadows' with an eye dissection demonstrated by Miss Sheilla. Our students experienced first hand the wonders (and squeamishness) involved in this practical lesson. Why not ask our Year 6s about the anatomy of the eye and an explanation of how we see? Additionally, our learning on 'Justice and Freedom' led us to research and present information on non-violent protest movements led by Freedom Fighters John Hume, Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr, and Nelson Mandela. What amazing history we have learned about these remarkable people that is shaping the way we think about our own freedoms and that of others. "If you forget the path travelled, you will forget the path to travel." Dr P.S.J Kumar.

Mrs Jana

This week culminated with our colourful Holi Celebration, our class parties, inter house basketball tournament followed by the final reward assembly of the term to celebrate each and every one of our wonderful students. A lot of fun was had by all.

Next term, we have exciting residentials to look forward to - Zanaibar for Year 4 an 5 and Kilwa for Year 6. We thank you for your continued support and wish you a safe, restful and fun break.
