Drama

30th January 2023

After a very busy first term students are back to creating, imagining and staging in their Drama lessons. Year 7 and 8 are exploring script writing and how to realise a script from page to stage in short scenes. In this they are learning the convention of script writing such as including stage, vocal and physical acting directions and then casting their short script to a suitable peer in the class to perform the scene. Year 7D have worked on including a tragic ending to their scene work such as the one depicted in the picture below.

Year 9 have explored scene work, acting and vocal skills and how to justify their choices on the use of voice, actions and stage design in order to communicate meaning of drama to an audience. They have started working on short scenes in the play Blood Brothers.

In Year 10, we are exploring the different theatre practitioners such as Brecht and Stanislavski and what ideas they brought to theatre. Students then try to integrate the practitioners’ ideas in their devised drama.

Creating a conversation around drama at home

What are some of the acting and voice skills that you have used in your devised drama?

What did you enjoy doing in the drama class?

If you were to recreate your skits again what would you do differently?
