Roots and Shoots

In

In Roots and Shoots this term, the students have been learning about the endangered animals of East Africa. We have so far learned about such species of animals as the whale sharks, the cheetah and the black rhino. The students have been learning about the challenges that these animals are facing, such as poaching, overfishing and loss of habitat. The students have been also learning about conservation efforts made by East African countries to protect the species and increase their numbers in the wild.

Furthermore, the students have been engaged into the regular routine of monitoring recycling at school and learning more about the 3 Rs- reduce, reuse, recycle.

Recently, we have been invited to Twiga Cement Factory to attend a speech of our Year 9 student and an environmental activist Sharon Mowo.

During the trip, the students learned about the threats to the environment which is caused by cement production. We were glad to find out that Twiga Cement factory has a tree nursery, where different species of trees and plants are grown in order to be distributed to communities and organisations to support tree planting efforts. We brought back to school about 20 young trees and we are planning to plant them around the school.this term, the students have been learning about the endangered animals of East Africa.
