Year 1: Learners have been working on exploring different media and techniques in various activities which included autumn watercolour leaves, painting snow and winter shadows, stick-painted blossoms, summer art, abstract expressionism inspired by all four seasons. They also made paintings of the moon and earth in space. They will be making paper mache moon and earth, and a 3D rocket using recycled materials in the next art lessons. 

Year 2: Learners made some Indian art inspired pieces with focus on India Elephant drawing/painting, India Textile Art, India Peacock Art, and Taj Mahal Art. They have also been making aircraft drawings of 2D and 3D designs of the hot air balloon, the Wright brothers’ aeroplane, the airliner, the helicopter and the rocket.

Year 3: Learners used a variety of media, styles, techniques and processes to create mountain drawings, paintings, prints and designs. They also made studies of Rock Art in East Africa.

Year 4: Learners made art inspired by Aztec symbols and pattern, Aztec Printing and Aztec Sunstone. Over the next 2 weeks they will also make artworks inspired by East African houses in history like the African huts, Maasai manyattas and an African village. Learners will also make drawings and designs of the Arab and Swahili architecture.

Year 5: Learners made drawings and paintings the Solar System while focussing on colour and shapes of the planets. They also made artworks inspired by the themes, ‘night and day’, and ‘an astronaut in space’. Learners made a study of Undare Mtaki’s technique of using shapes in his paintings of rocky landscapes. He is a local Tanzanian artist and architect. Learners also learnt how to draw portraits from description. Over the next two weeks they will make abstract drawings, paintings and sculptures of portraits of some of the rulers of the African Kingdoms.

Year 6: Learners made drawings of rocky landscapes with rivers. They used dry media and paint to create different patterns and textures of the water surface. They also studied some artworks of artists who are inspired by water. They have also been focusing on the visual element of Light and dark effects in still life, surreal and abstract artworks while exploring different media and techniques.
