Physics & Science: Building Knowledge, Confidence and Curiosity

16th May 2026

Physics and Science lessons have been full of energy and focus this term, with students across the year groups making excellent progress and continuing to deepen their understanding of key scientific concepts.

In Physics, both Year 10 and Year 12 students are now firmly in exam preparation mode. Year 10 students have recently completed their study of Thermal Physics as part of the IGCSE course, developing a strong understanding of topics such as heat transfer, specific heat capacity and changes of state. They are now focusing on revision strategies and exam technique to strengthen confidence ahead of their assessments.

Meanwhile, Year 12 students have been exploring Electricity, tackling more advanced concepts including circuits, resistance and electrical power. Lessons have combined theory with problem-solving activities, helping students build both analytical skills and confidence as they prepare for upcoming examinations.

In Year 8 Science, students are concluding their topic on breathing and respiration. They have explored the structure and function of the lungs, gas exchange and the role of respiration in providing energy for the body. Students have shown excellent curiosity and engagement throughout the unit, particularly during practical investigations and discussions linking respiration to exercise and everyday life.

Overall, it has been a productive and exciting period across the Science department, with students demonstrating enthusiasm, resilience and a growing depth of scientific understanding.
