MUSIC THIS TERM

The music department team is delighted to share an overview of the musical journey students have been undertaking in music class this term. Each year the group has been engaged in activities that not only develop their understanding of music theory but also encourage creativity, teamwork, and performance skills. Here's a summary of the progress made by each year group:

Year 1
The Year 1 students have been exploring both tuned and untuned instruments. They have learned how to play simple melodies on the xylophone, with a focus on music processes such as pitch, tempo, dynamics, and musical beat. The students were also introduced to ensemble performance and have enjoyed learning "Edelweiss" from The Sound of Music, demonstrating their progress in playing together as a group.

Year 2
Year 2 students have been delving deeper into the elements of pitch, tempo, dynamics, and musical beat. They have engaged in singing, movement, and percussion work, developing their musical skills through the song "Farewell" from The Sound of Music. Their understanding of rhythm and melody has been further enhanced through vocal exercises and active listening, preparing them for more complex musical concepts.

Year 3
Our Year 3 students have demonstrated a growing understanding of music through simple vocal and solfege exercises. This term, they have been exploring performance techniques by learning and rehearsing "Do Re Mi" from The Sound of Music. These sessions have helped them improve their vocal control and knowledge of the solfa notation with precision.

Year 4
Year 4 students have been exploring the fundamental concepts of tempo, dynamics, and beat. They have worked in groups to analyze and perform elements of the song "Maria" from The Sound of Music, focusing on how these musical elements contribute to a cohesive performance. This group work has allowed them to collaborate effectively and build confidence in their musical abilities.

Year 5
Year 5 has been an exciting term for the students, as they explored the concept of dance performance alongside music. The children have worked on rhythm and movement in preparation for performing "The Lonely Goatherd" from The Sound of Music. Through team rehearsals, they have learned to synchronize their steps and movements with the song, reinforcing the relationship between music and physical expression.

Year 6
Year 6 students have been focusing on more advanced musical concepts, including two-part harmonies, proper posture, and song presentation. This term, they have been rehearsing the songs "My Favorite Things" and "Climb Every Mountain" from The Sound of Music. The students are working diligently to refine their harmonies and stage presence, demonstrating their growth in vocal technique and performance skills.

We are incredibly proud of the progress all our students have made this term, and we look forward to seeing their continued development as the term progresses.
