French
All the classes started the new year in French with new topics to discover and explore. Year 7 is learning how to express themselves about their school subjects and give their opinion, along with talking about their school in general. They were asked to create a storyboard to use the vocabulary taught in this module to describe their school routine.
Year 8 is learning very useful phrases to order food and drink in a French cafe and to make arrangements to meet up with friends; this will come in very handy the day they have to interact with French-speaking peers to go and have fun together!
Year 9s were involved in a little project of creating an attractive leaflet or video in French to present what tourists can do in Dar. They were judged on their effort, creativity, and, of course, language content and accuracy. Some pupils produced excellent work and were awarded house points for it. All KS3 classes will be doing thorough end-of-module assessments on the four skills.
KS4 classes are steadily progressing in their learning and improving their linguistic skills with a mixture of coursework, past paper practice, and stimulating board games to use the language in a creative manner and revise essential vocabulary, verbs, and frequency words! Year 11 is intensively preparing for their upcoming oral exam.
Kiswahili Term 2
We're thrilled to share the exciting progress our students have made in learning Kiswahili this term. Across Year 7, 8, and 9, our language classes have been buzzing with enthusiasm and achievement.
In Year 7, students have delved into the intricacies of Kiswahili grammar, exploring noun classes and questioning words. Meanwhile, Year 8 students have been honing their communication skills, learning to ask for and give directions, punctuating their sentences effectively, and crafting short paragraphs with confidence.
Year 9 students have been on an adventure, mastering the art of asking for directions, describing quantities of items, and revisiting essential vocabulary and grammar concepts. Throughout all classes, students have been actively engaging in listening, speaking, reading, and writing activities, ensuring a well-rounded language learning experience.
We're proud of the strides our students are making in Kiswahili and are grateful for your continued support in their educational journey. Together, we're building a strong foundation for their linguistic development and future success.
