IGCSE Physical Education: Progress, Performance and Success

6th June 2026

Secondary PE & iGCSE Physical Education Newsletter

It has been a successful term for our iGCSE PE students! We are incredibly proud of the commitment, enthusiasm, and resilience shown by both our Year 10 and Year 11 students as they continue their journey through the Edexcel iGCSE Physical Education course.

Year 10 Update

Our Year 10 students have made excellent progress this year and have now successfully completed all of the content for Paper 1 of the Edexcel iGCSE PE specification. Throughout the year, students have developed their understanding of key theoretical topics including:

  • Health, Fitness and Wellbeing
  • The Skeletal System
  • The Muscular System
  • The Cardiovascular and Respiratory Systems
  • Energy Use and Components of Fitness
  • Principles of Training
  • Methods of Training
  • Injury Prevention and Safety

Students have approached these challenging topics with maturity and determination, building a strong foundation as they prepare to begin Paper 2 content and continue their examination preparation.

Alongside their theory studies, students have continued to develop their practical performance across a range of sports including Swimming, Basketball, Volleyball, and Football. These activities have provided valuable opportunities to improve technical skills, tactical awareness, fitness, and leadership qualities in preparation for their own practical moderation next year.

A particular highlight has been the support Year 10 students have provided during the Year 11 moderation process. Observing and assisting with moderation has given them a valuable insight into the assessment requirements and expectations they will face next year. This experience has helped students understand the importance of preparation, performance consistency, and attention to detail within practical assessments.

Year 11 Update

Our Year 11 students have now reached the end of their iGCSE PE journey. This term they successfully completed their practical moderation assessments and final written examinations after months of hard work and dedication.

Throughout the course, students have demonstrated perseverance, commitment, and a willingness to challenge themselves both practically and academically. They should be extremely proud of everything they have achieved.

We would like to congratulate all of our Year 11 students on completing their examinations and thank them for the positive contribution they have made to PE and sport at Braeburn. We wish them every success when results are released and hope they achieve the grades that reflect the hard work and effort they have invested throughout the course.

Looking Ahead

As one group of students completes their iGCSE PE journey, we are excited to welcome our next cohort of GCSE PE students as they move into Year 10. We look forward to supporting them as they begin their studies and helping them develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to succeed both in the classroom and in their practical performances.

Physical Education continues to provide students with opportunities to develop not only sporting ability, but also resilience, discipline, leadership, teamwork, and a lifelong appreciation for health and physical activity. We are excited to see what the future holds for all of our PE students.

"Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out."
