Braeburn ICT Update: Second half - First Term Progress

We are pleased to share an update on the exciting progress within our ICT department as we reach the midpoint of the first term. Our students have been actively engaged in building essential digital skills and exploring a variety of ICT topics suited to their year levels. Here's a quick look at the activities and learning taking place across the different year groups:

Year 7: Coding with Kodu Programming

Our Year 7 students have been introduced to coding through Kodu programming. Using this engaging platform, they are developing their problem-solving and creativity skills by designing interactive games. This introductory approach to coding has helped build a strong foundation in logical thinking while making learning fun and visually engaging.

Year 8: Introduction to Python Programming
Year 8 students are diving into the world of programming with an introduction to Python. They are learning the fundamentals of coding, including variables, loops, and decision-making. This experience not only prepares them for more complex programming but also encourages them to think critically and analytically.

Year 9: Database Development
In Year 9, students are focusing on database development. They are learning how to create, manage, and manipulate databases, which is an essential skill in many areas of ICT and beyond. Through hands-on projects, they’re gaining valuable insights into data organisation, management, and retrieval, setting them up with practical skills they can use in various fields.

Year 10: Document Manipulation and Network Effects
Our Year 10 students are progressing through the IGCSE curriculum, focusing on document manipulation and exploring networks and their impacts. They are developing advanced practical skills in creating and managing documents while understanding the technical aspects and social effects of networked systems. This knowledge is essential in today’s interconnected digital world.

Year 11: Spreadsheets and ICT Applications in Recognition and Satellite Systems
Year 11 students are honing their skills in IGCSE spreadsheets and exploring ICT applications in recognition and satellite systems. They are mastering complex spreadsheet functions that will serve them well in their studies and future careers. Additionally, they are exploring real-world ICT applications, understanding the role of recognition systems and satellite technology in various industries.

As we continue with the term, we look forward to witnessing further achievements and discoveries from our students. Thank you for your continued support of our ICT program and for encouraging our learners as they embrace these vital skills.
