Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is the subject which encourages learners to develop lifelong skills, including:
The programme balances a thorough knowledge and understanding of a subject and helps to develop the skills learners need for their next steps in education or employment.
During this term Year 7 have been learning about HTML and website development. They have been writing HTML code to create a simple web page and display it in a browser. They have written CSS code to define the styles of different parts of a web page and inserted text, images and links on their web pages.
Year 8s have been learning about spreadsheet modelling. Working in pairs, They have completed an appropriate computer model or financial model. They have combined different types of data and applied spreadsheet functions and formulae to different packages and sources.
Year 9s have been learning about graphics and graphic file types. The unit explores how bitmap and vector images are represented and stored by the computer. There is also opportunity for students to practise skills in design, photo-editing and image manipulation using a suitable graphics package. The students’ final posters will be put into an assessment portfolio.
Year 10 Computer Science students have continued learning to programme. They are learning about the need for verification checks to be made on input data and the different types of verification check.
While the ICT group have been learning about Networks and the effects of using them and the security issues regarding data transfer. Also, they are learning to set up electronic conferencing and create a database structure.
