In history we have been learning about Anglo-Saxon England and the Battle of Hastings. Congratulations to Clement and Isabel in year 7 who wrote fabulous and detailed accounts about what happened in the battle that led to the defeat of Harold Godwinson, the King of England.
Year 8 have just started learning about African Kingdoms. We have been looking at the relationship between the River Nile and Ancient Egypt and how significant Tanzania is to early human history. Thank you to Salesia for her beautifully written homework about explorers in South America and perceptions different groups who have had on first encountering each other.
In year 9 we have covered the Maji Maji uprising with Rj, Sophia, Hayaam, Aisia and Gloria writing some particularly powerful accounts of what happened in the years leading up to and after the Uprising in 1905-1907.
Also a special well done to Amazing and Marko for making fantastic improvements in their writing. Really impressed.
Year 10 are continuing to make strides with the Germany in depth topic part of their iGCSE. They are assessing how far the Nazi party and Hitler were able to gain total control over the people in Germany. Lisa continues to shine in her homework for example her research on Kristallnacht. Alvin also has bee making insightful comments in lesson.
In year 10 Geography we're exploring urban settlements and the factors that make them grow. A massive well done to Brilliant and Katalina for again achieving A grades in their end of unit tests.
In year 11 geography we have nearly finished Theme 2 ready to finish off the year with Theme 3 understanding topics such as development, industry, food and other fascinating topics relating to the relationship between us and our world.
In year 10 sociology we've been getting stuck into what makes us who we are. The students a did fabulous presentations on subcultures where we learnt about groups from hippies to skin heads. Well done everyone on your interesting and well researched presentations.
Finally in year 11 sociology we are making great strides analysing the factors that lead to educational inequality. We had a guest speaker, a graduate of Stellenbosch University to talk us about the ‘hidden curriculum’ and his research in this area.
