French

8th June 2024

It has been a busy half-term for the French classes in the Primary department with most classes finishing or starting projects. Years 1 and 2 made bunting of the numbers they learned to decorate their classroom with. We also finished reading the adventures of Bof le Dragon and started the story of Handa who brings fruits to her friend in her village. This was used as an introduction to the next topic on Fruit and Veg.

Year 3 finished making all kinds of labels in French to pin on their classroom furniture and stationery in order to be exposed to the words daily. They also made a poster detailing the content of their pencil case.

Year 4 can now describe the daily weather with at least three pieces of information while Years 5 and 6 learned to read the time in French and use phrases to describe their daily routine. Year 5 did a storyboard competition and year 6 moved on to learn the vocabulary to talk about what they usually have for breakfast.

International Dance Day led to a lot of fun for all the classes trying their first steps at Ballet Dancing since it is a 350-year-old French tradition and institution. We also learned about Le Palais Garnier in Paris and did activities with the painting ballerinas of the painter Edgar Degas. We also discovered the young star dancer Guillaume Diop who was named Principal Dancer of the Opera Garnier and who is the first of African origins to reach this most prestigious artistic and professional recognition.
