English-second-term

8th February 2025

What’s been happening this week?

Year 7 have been working on their research projects. They have been learning about the importance of quality research and learning how to make notes. They’ve also been learning how to use a range of AI tools to help them with their research too. I’m looking forward to seeing their final presentations next week!

Year 8 have been reading the novel Private Peaceful. They’ve been learning all about the role of propaganda and how people can be manipulated by language and false information. They’ve been using a lot of these propaganda techniques in their own creative writing too.

Year 9 have been working on their own advertising project. Each group was allocated a demographic, and then they needed to create a marketing strategy and a series of adverts to appeal to that particular target audience. Their presentations this week were fantastic and demonstrated a lot of hard work and effort.

Year 10 have been developing their poetry skills recently. We have been annotating a series of poems that they need to study for their IGCSE. I’ve been really impressed with their contributions. They are all learning a lot of new literary techniques and remembering them too!

Year 11 are still reflecting upon their mock exams. We have been going through each exam and thinking about strategies to ensure they make progress in their final exams. Their attitude has been really positive, and they all now recognize how important it is to claw away at every potential mark available.
