English Class

What's been happening in English?

Year 7 - were working on their own slam poems. They explored their emotions and thought about different ways of expressing themselves. They then performed their own poem in front of their peers. Everybody was fantastic, and it was great to see everybody developing their spoken word and confidence skills.

Year 8 - have been reading the play Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. They have been developing their analytical skills, but they have also been writing their own scripts that they have been performing in class too. I've really enjoyed watching their performance skills develop.

Year 9 - were also working on their slam poems. Again, it was fantastic to see everybody performing in front of their peers, a poem they had written themselves. We are now reading the novel 1984. The students are developing their understanding of dystopian conventions and then attempting to identify these features in the novel.

Year 10 - have been reading and studying the play A Streetcar Named Desire. This has sparked lots of interesting and provocative debate and discussion around topics such as toxic masculinity, abuse, mental health and control. The students have been fantastic with regards to their contributions. They are now doing their end of year exams, and I wish them the best of luck!

Year 11 - have now successfully completed all of their IGCSE English examinations! It has been a fantastic 2 years teaching them, and we all hope they get the grades they each deserve!
