Year 6

The heart is the beginning and end of the circulatory system and is the engine that drives it. Everything else exists solely to keep the heart nourished and functioning.”-William Harvey

Over the last four weeks, we have delved deeply into the inner working of the heart and the circulation system. Our fabulous Year 6 students bravely performed their first dissection of a goat’s heart and were filled with both trepidation as well as awe and wonder at undertaking such a feat! “Why does it smell like that? I can’t believe I am touching a real-life heart! That’s so cool! Is it still alive, Mrs Jana?” were only some of the interesting questions and statements that came out from our dissection lesson. Together with Miss Sheilla and Ms Saidy, the children noticed the main blood vessels such as the aorta, the pulmonary arteries and veins as well as the vena cava. Why not ask your children what they remember about how blood circulates through the human body? I am certain they will share a lot of excellent facts and observations.
