Early Years

26th November 2023

Early Years were global citizens last week and joined thousands of schools around the world to celebrate ‘World Nursery Rhyme Week’.

They learn a new nursery rhyme every day; Jack and Jill, Hickory, Dickory, Dock, Row Row, Row your Boat, Head Shoulders Knees and Toes, and The Wheels on the Bus. Experiencing rhyming, rhythm, tempo, and learning new vocabulary.

FS1 and FS2 made some changes to the nursery rhymes and performed them in the assembly on Friday. I was very proud of their confidence as they stood in front of the school and recited their versions. We had a good singalong, and it was certainly a very lively and loud assembly!

Nursery rhymes hold huge importance for our younger children as they develop speech and language skills. Statistics show that children who know eight nursery rhymes by the age of four will be amongst the top readers in their class by the age of eight.
