The Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award students at Braeburn Dar have been pushing their limits, embracing challenges, and making unforgettable memories. Their latest adventure? A three-day trek through the stunning Uluguru Mountains—an experience filled with resilience, teamwork, and breathtaking views.
The Uluguru Expedition
Taking the smooth and reliable SGR train to Morogoro set the tone for an exciting journey. From trekking through banana plantations and strawberry fields to climbing steep mountain trails, the group faced both physical and mental challenges. But instead of shying away, they got stuck in, supporting each other every step of the way. The reward? Spectacular views over Morogoro, a true sense of achievement, and plenty of shared laughter.
A special mention goes to Savannah, who showed incredible resilience throughout the trek, never giving up despite the challenges. Meanwhile, Vinn stood out as an outstanding team player—always motivated and motivating others, keeping the group’s spirits high even when the path got tough.
Evenings were filled with fun and camaraderie, especially during intense games of Mafia, where Ben shocked everyone with his impressively convincing (and slightly terrifying) deception skills as the Mafia.
A special thanks to Mr Kassim and Mr Treacher for supporting the students every step of the way making sure they were all safe and happy.
Beyond the Expedition
The students aren’t just conquering mountains—they’re making impressive progress in completing their award sections. Many have been actively involved in sports, with Tiko helping out with basketball club and even attending the U11s competition at IST on Saturday to coach them, while Vinn and Ben have been dedicated to helping people progress in football. Others have taken a proactive role in Roots & Shoots, contributing to environmental projects with enthusiasm.
The skills section has seen fantastic achievements, too. Angelina has completed her guitar practice, while Savannah is close to finishing her theatre and music performances. Alysha and Angelique have dedicated themselves to developing their cooking skills, mastering everything from homemade pasta to traditional Swahili dishes.
In addition, students are now sharing their research findings from the Uluguru and previous trips in lessons and clubs—educating their peers on everything from biodiversity in the mountains to the emotional highs and lows of adventure.
