If the Pre-Creche and Creche children could write an invitation letter to a zoo, they would want a giraffe, elephant, zebra and snake to join our class! The storybook, Dear Zoo by Ron Campbell inspired their learning this term which took them on a journey of discovery into the world of wide animals. Our role play corner was transformed into a safari park with all the wild animals mentioned in the book. The children enjoyed dressing up as each animal and making their corresponding crafts each week. They learnt vocabulary to describe patterns found on their animals and other physical traits such as ‘spots’, ‘stripes’, ‘tall’ and 'heavy’. Some children were able to highlight animals with similar patterns by looking at pictures displayed in class. As their vocabulary increased, they liked to dance with their zoo friends as they moved to the song ‘Animal Boogie’. Our Pre Creche children had fun making the animal sounds and learning their names as we sang with musical instruments. After a busy time painting with our zoo friends, the children engaged in sensory play by washing their toys. Lots of sounds, words and movements were explored during the term. GRRREAT!
