Computing

We've kicked off our computing lessons with a bang, and we are thrilled to share a sneak peek of what the children will be exploring throughout this term!

Year 1: Digital Writing:

This term, our focus in writing is on developing a comprehensive understanding of various aspects of using a computer to create and manipulate text. Students are engaging themselves in activities which includes using a keyboard and mouse to input and delete text efficiently; exploring methods to modify the appearance of their text; considering factors such as font style, size, and formatting. Through this exploration, they will learn to make informed decisions about visual presentation and be able to justify their choices effectively.

Year 2: Creating Media / Making Music

We are excited to explore music creation using Chrome Music Lab drawing inspiration from Gustav Holst's "The Planets" music composition. Through this exploration, we will uncover how music serves as a powerful medium for expressing emotions. Here is the link to the brilliant platform that children can explore further at home with you. https://musiclab.chromeexperiments.com/

Key Stage 2 Coding Adventures Await in the Final Term of 2024!

As we enter the final term of the academic year, the Computing department at Key Stage 2 is buzzing with excitement as students dive deeper into the world of coding. We're thrilled to share the fantastic progress our students are making as they explore the intricacies of programming.

Year 3: Embarking on Coding Adventures with Flowcharts

In Year 3, our young coding enthusiasts are taking their first steps into the world of programming using flowcharts. By visualising algorithms and sequences, Year 3 students are developing a foundational understanding of coding concepts that will serve as the building blocks for their future coding endeavours.

Year 4: Designing, Coding, Testing, and Debugging

Year 4 students are becoming proficient coders as they learn the full software development cycle. From designing and coding to testing and debugging, our Year 4s are gaining invaluable hands-on experience in creating functional and efficient programs. Get ready to see some impressive coding projects from our Year 4s!

Year 5: Mastering Efficient Coding Techniques

This term, Year 5 students are focusing on coding efficiency. They are learning advanced techniques to optimise their code, improve performance, and enhance readability. From using loops and functions to organising code structure, Year 5s are becoming masters of efficient coding practices.

Year 6: Designing and Making More Complex Programs

In Year 6, the challenge level has been raised as students dive into designing and making more complex programs. From interactive games to practical applications, our Year 6s are applying their coding skills to create projects that showcase their creativity and problem-solving abilities. Get ready to be amazed by the innovative projects our Year 6s will produce!

Parents and guardians, we encourage you to engage with your children about their coding adventures. Ask them about the projects they're working on, encourage them to explain their coding logic, and celebrate their achievements. Your support plays a crucial role in fostering a love for coding and technology.

As we embark on this final term of the year, we're excited to see the growth and accomplishments of our students in the world of coding. Thank you for your continued support, and here's to a term filled with creativity, learning, and coding excellence!
