Computing in FS2 and Key Stage 1

We are getting confident in using some basic tools on Purple Mash.

Our FS2 children have been working on ‘The Paint Project’ which includes themed paintings on various patterns and textures. The focus has been to be able to scroll the mouse.

Our Year 1s are exploring ‘2Explore’ where they have been learning how to record simple melodies by clicking on the instruments.

Our Year 2s are bringing in their maths knowledge to our computing lessons. They are working on data handling using ‘2Count’ and have created pictograms of the data they collected through a recent survey about our teachers’ favourite fruit, weather and colour.

Key Stage 2

As we enter the second half of the first term, we are delighted to

share the progress and achievements of our students in the Computing department

at Lower and Upper Key Stage 2. The enthusiasm and dedication displayed by our young learners are truly commendable.

Year 3: Mastering the Art of Touch Typing

Our Year 3 students have been diligently honing their typing skills through engaging touch typing activities. This foundational skill not only enhances their efficiency in using digital devices but also prepares them for future endeavours in the digital landscape. We encourage parents to provide opportunities for their children to practise touch typing at home.

Year 4: Budgeting for a Party with Spreadsheets

In Year 4, students are embracing the world of budgeting by creating spreadsheet models for organising a party. This practical application of spreadsheet skills helps them understand the concept of budgeting, adding a real-world dimension to their learning. The creativity and attention to detail displayed by the students are truly impressive.

Year 5: Formulas with Variables in Spreadsheets

Year 5 students are delving into the intricacies of spreadsheets by learning how to create formulas that incorporate variables. This advanced skill allows them to manipulate data effectively, laying the foundation for more complex spreadsheet tasks in the future. The students are demonstrating a keen understanding of mathematical concepts within a digital context.

Year 6: Real-life Pocket Money Management with Spreadsheets

Our Year 6 students are applying their spreadsheet knowledge to real-life scenarios by creating models for managing pocket money. This project involves tracking weekly income, savings, and expenditures, providing practical and hands-on experience in financial management.

It's exciting to see them develop skills that will undoubtedly serve them well in the future.

We are proud of the progress our students are making in the Computing curriculum. The practical and real-world applications of these skills ensure that our students are proficient in using technology and equipped to apply their knowledge in various contexts.
