Year 1
We have been studying and learning about various Danish artists painting styles, techniques, processes and media. We have looked at three artists so far including Harald Giersing where we studied his painting called, Fodboldspillere. Sofus header (Soccer players. Sofus heads), 1917. We have also made paintings in the styles of Asger Jorn and Klaus Nordhoek.
Year 2
Learners have been engaged in technical and freehand drawing, and colouring tasks of the landmarks in London and Dar es Salaam cities. Learners have been applying the visual elements of art like lines, shapes, and colour to make drawings of the London Tower, London Eye and Dar es Salaam skyline.
Year 3
The focus this half of the term is on Victorian era art. Students discussed and analysed historical portrait of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert (print) done by the English School in 1850s. The made a copy of the portrait by using tracing and transferring technique with pencil. Students have also began working on their William Morris inspired designs. William Morris is a Victorian era artist.
Year 4
Students have been introduced to illustration art and they are currently working on making book cover designs and illustrations from other cultures or fiction.
Year 5
Students have been studying Japanese art with focus on ‘Three Beauties of the Present Day’, by Utamaro, c. 1793 and ‘The Great Wave off Kanagawa’ by Katsushika Hokusai, Edo period. They made of copies of these artworks using the tracing and transferring technique and with pencils. They are currently working on recreating a cover design for their favourite Michael Morpugo book.
Year 6
Students made their own aboriginal inspired dot art. They were allowed to use media of choice in this activity. They are currently working on making illustrations for poems or stories that they have learnt in or out of class.
