Art Trips Report – June/July 2025

On Tuesday, 24th June 2025, the Year 8 students participated in an engaging and inspiring art trip to KokoTEN Studio in Dar es Salaam CBD, where they explored new printmaking techniques under the guidance of renowned artist Gadi Ramadhani. During the workshop, students had the opportunity to experiment with plastic plate etching and use a manual printing press machine, which was a new and exciting experience for many of them. This hands-on session allowed them to deepen their understanding of the printmaking process while developing new artistic skills.

Meanwhile, the Year 7 students had an equally rewarding experience at the African Minerals and Geosciences Centre (AMGC) in Kunduchi Beach Area on Thursday, 26th June 2025, where they spent the day learning about ceramics. Led by talented ceramic artist James Mgalla, supported by two skilled technicians, the students explored a range of ceramic techniques. They learnt wheel throwing, hand-building, and ceramic decoration techniques, gaining valuable insight into the full process of creating ceramic pieces. The workshop was not only educational but also thoroughly enjoyable, with students expressing great enthusiasm and creativity throughout the day. The ceramic items created by the students will be fired and glazed at the studio, and will be delivered to school early next term for students to collect.

Both trips provided valuable learning experiences outside the classroom, enhancing students' practical art skills and offering meaningful interactions with professional artists.

On Tuesday, 1st July 2025, the Year 9 and 10 students participated in an exciting cross-disciplinary Creative Arts trip to Nafasi Art Space in Dar es Salaam. The day began with a guided tour of the vibrant art gallery, followed by an expressive painting workshop where students explored emotions using colours, lines, and shapes of their choice. In the drama auditorium, students engaged in a lively session on character development led by renowned thespian Fadhili, culminating in several entertaining skits. Some students also visited the music studio, where they received a fascinating overview of music history, from cassette tapes and record players to digitisation and modern sound engineering. Adding to the experience, the group met David, a 3D animator from the USA, who shared insights about his upcoming animation school in Tegeta and invited interested students to join his summer 3D animation workshop. This enriching trip provided students with hands-on learning, creative inspiration, and a deeper appreciation of the professional arts world.
