Art & Design
Year 7: Students have begun exploring various tasks in the unit, Design Project. They have been introduced to design and developed an understanding of the difference between Art and Design. Additionally, they have undertaken a class assignment on two types of perspective drawing.
Year 8: Learners have delved into book cover/page design. They created a book cover/page template of their own based on a book of choice (sequel/invented book/existing book). Students practised fonts and measured out boxes for their titles/narratives. Currently, they are working on adding drawings/illustrations in the designated spaces.
Year 9: Students have been exposed to the work of street artist Banksy and can describe his techniques in creating public murals. They recreated a piece of Banksy's work on appropriate paper, paying attention to high contrast and using tracing and stencils. Students also designed an artwork based on a linocut with a theme of choice, drawing inspiration from Banksy for their style or image.
Year 10: Students have commenced their IGCSE Coursework, contributing to 50% of their final IGCSE Art & Design grade. They have chosen varying themes such as ‘Depression’, ‘Ocean Life’, ‘Identity’, and ‘Out of Place’. Let’s see how this develops.
Year 11: Students are nearing completion of their IGCSE Coursework, which constitutes 50% of their final IGCSE Art & Design grade. They have been working on varying themes such as ‘Reflections’, ‘Bad Habits’, and ‘Distortion’. Following the half-term holidays, they will begin working on the Externally Set Assignment (Paper 2).
Design & Technology
Year 11: Students are finalizing the generation of ideas for the Coursework Project. They will commence making their models immediately after the half-term break. They are working on various architectural model themes such as ‘a school’, ‘a library’, and ‘a football stadium’. Best wishes from me in the last phase of the project.
