(A poem adapted from P. Munson’s ‘A Trip to the Zoo’)
What can you do,
When going to the Kigamboni zoo?
Why you can see a crocodile,
And hear beautiful turtle doves coo.
You can watch a busy Marbou stork,
Proudly showcasing its wings,
Or see a 100-year old tortoise,
Regally munching on leafy things.
You can bravely walk past,
An excited yellow baboon,
Or watch baby Waterbucks,
And imagine how cutely they sleep under the moon.
How about watching an ostrich?
Who’s almost as tall as a tree,
Or laugh at the playing monkeys,
All thirty three.
You can observe the swift Black Mamba,
as its slithers over a rock,
Or see deep-red monitor lizards,
Staring curiously as children talk.
How about looking at a porcupine?
As it happily chews red fruit,
Or gently stroke a gentle monkey,
Wearing its handsome fursuit.
So if you happen to love seeing animals,
And if it truly is your heart’s cry,
Then take a trip to the zoo,
And give animal-gazing a try.
Because you see, trips to the zoo,
Always leads to adventure!
Just wait for it because,
Lots of stories come from where we venture.
