Year 2 Africraft Trip

11th March 2024

As part of our learning in Science lessons about Materials and their Uses, Year 2 leapt at the chance to visit Africraft, an NGO committed to promoting sustainable living and fair trade practices in Tanzania! We had a look around their bustling workshops where artisans were busy making beautiful things out of the things we would throw away! Our favourite part was watching glass bottles being cut to make drinks glasses, available to buy from their shop.

We reused a tetra carton and made it into a useful gift bag, by simply sprucing it up with some newspaper- you could easily replicate this at home with some left over coloured paper or kitenge. We enjoyed using a mallet to flatten used Nespresso pods to make into a pretty and colourful keychain. We also loved hanging out with Queen, Africraft’s dog!

We felt inspired to reuse the things we have and commit to putting less of our rubbish into landfill and instead reusing and recycling it. How do you Reduce, Reuse and Recycle at home?
