Upper School

20th April 2024

Welcome back to Term 3 from the Upper School! We are so excited about what is to come while recognising how so much has been achieved in the last two terms. The time is flying by and before we know it we will be celebrating the end of the academic year and for some of our students, the end of their primary school journey as they make that leap into secondary life! What a milestone.

In Year 4, our students are thrilled to be back to school. They have enjoyed starting their day watching the BBC newsround and will continue this as part of their daily routine for them to ask questions and understand what is going on around the world. In English, they were sharing information about how they spent their holiday and even though we have only been back for two days, we also managed to even write beautiful holiday recounts!

Year 5 have had a smashing start to the term. It was wonderful to hear and share our holiday stories and great that some much needed rest was incorporated by all! We are excited to be studying Japan this half term and the children have expressed curiosity and interest in learning more about the culture, food, natural disasters and technology. They could start to do some of their own research at home if they wish. In English, we will be deep diving into the author Michael Murpogo which should also prove to be a memorable learning experience.

Our Year 6 students have resumed school with gusto and have dived straight into 3D-shapes and their properties in Maths. Did you know that another name for a triangular-based pyramid is a tetrahedron? The students were chuffed to learn this interesting fact! They were also challenged when drawing nets and reviewing shape properties. It is no small feat to count the number of edges of an octagonal prism! The students have also been developing setting descriptions for warning tales. They have been working hard to incorporate personification, interesting verbs, expanded noun phrases and are even beginning to think about how to use pathetic fallacy, an approach that gives human feelings to inanimate things such as the weather, in their writing. Have a look at some of the setting descriptions soon to be displayed outside our classroom in the coming weeks.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and look forward to working together to make this term the best one yet!
