Lower School

20th April 2024

Welcome back! We hope you have had a restful break. The Lower School have been busy getting into the flow of things and have settled in remarkably well. The children are all cheerful and full of energy, which is always lovely to see.

Year 1 returned from their break full of energy and enthusiasm and have enjoyed sharing stories about their holidays. In Maths, they have already begun learning about counting by 2s, 5s and 10s. We are excited to start learning about Denmark in Geography and about everyday materials in Science.

In Year 2 the children have started learning about fractions and relating this to the world around them. Did you know that helping out in the kitchen is a great way to talk about fractions with your child? Half, quarter, divide, equal parts, part and whole are all keywords you could use. We are excited to start learning about habitats in Science- what creatures great or small did you see on your holiday? We will be comparing London with Dar es Salaam in Geography lessons- this cool website allows you to visit London from the comfort of your own home! Feel free to have a look with your child and discuss what they can see! https://360.visitlondon.com/#

Year 3 students have a lot of exciting learning to look forward to in Term 3. They have started learning about volume and capacity, why not ask your child about the difference between these two words at home?

The students are looking forward to learning about deserts in Geography, as well as about forces in Science. And, of course, everyone is excited about the residential trip to Saadani National Park in June!
